Ratings | Millions of Australians tune in as ABC rings in the New Year – Over 4.6 million Australians rang in the New Year with the ABC, solidifying the broadcaster’s role at the heart of the nation’s festivities.
Esteemed ABC hosts Charlie Pickering and Zan Rowe once again led the broadcast, delivering a celebration of music and entertainment to viewers near and far. ABC’s NYE25 featured standout performances from global pop icon Melanie C and Australian favourites Matt Corby, The Cat Empire, Peach PRC, Marcia Hines, Casey Donovan, Don West, Jem Cassar-Daley and Ayesha Madon, complemented by the City of Sydney’s world-class fireworks. The broadcast highlighted the ABC’s role in delivery high quality content that continues to connect communities across the nation.

- ABC’s NYE2025 coverage reached over 4.6 million viewers last night across TV and ABC iview, up 6% compared to NYE2024’s result of 4.4 million.
- On ABC iview, total NYE2025 coverage reached 708,000 viewers, lifting by a massive 49% compared to NYE2024.
- ABC was the #1 network in primetime across TV and BVOD yesterday with 35.3% share between 6pm and midnight (32.9% in 2024).
- ABC iview had dominant share of the BVOD audience at 42.9% across primetime last night.
- ABC’s New Year’s Eve 2025: Live Concert From The Opera House was the #1 program last night across Total TV with national reach of 3.4 million. On ABC iview alone, reach grew by 52% compared to the previous year.
- NYE2025: Midnight Fireworks reached 2.4m viewers across ABC TV and ABC iview, with 35% reach growth on ABC iview alone. Including the simulcast on ABC News channel the fireworks reached 2.7m viewers, 10% higher compared to last year.
- It was a record streaming day on ABC iview with over 1.3 million livestreams of ABC TV channel yesterday. It was the highest daily resultfor the channel to date and up 35% compared to NYE2024.

ABC’s New Year’s Eve 2025 coverage was live streamed directly to ABC iview’s TikTok, YouTube and Facebook accounts, plus ABC Australia’s TikTok, and shared with more than 12 ABC and partner accounts.
- On Facebook, overnight the live streams, highlights and NYE 2025 content amassed a combined total of 2.4M views on ABC and partner pages.
- On YouTube, ABC iview’s live streams, highlights and NYE 2025 content reached 732.5K views at the time of reporting.
- On TikTok, live streams, highlights and NYE 2025 content reached 1.1M views at the time of reporting.
- On Instagram, NYE 2025 content and highlights amassed a combined total of 1.73M views on ABC and partner pages.

NYE Broadcast
Kicking off at 8.45pm on ABC TV and ABC iview, the night began with a Welcome to Country by Gadigal Elder Aunty Joan Bell before launching into the 9pm Calling Country fireworks, painting the night sky with a kaleidoscope of colour and celebration.
From 9.10pm, the NYE25 concert featured a global pop icon alongside top Australian acts, while at 11pm, the harbour glowed as the City of Sydney created unity in a minute of silence for the victims of the Bondi terror attack, including the display of the Menorah.
At midnight, the City of Sydney’s world-class fireworks illuminated Sydney Harbour and welcomed in 2026.
