Ratings | Millions of Australians ring in the New Year with the ABC – Ringing in the New Year with the ABC proves to be an Australian tradition with 4.4 million viewers tuning in to celebrate.
Hosted by Charlie Pickering, Zan Rowe and Concetta Caristo, the evening was a celebration of music and entertainment. With performances from international superstar Robbie Williams, American country music powerhouse Randy Houser, the crème de la crème of Australian music G Flip, Becca Hatch, Nooky, 1300, Cyril, Casey Donovan, Fanning Dempsey National Park (Bernard Fanning and Paul Dempsey), and with the City of Sydney’s world class fireworks as the backdrop, the broadcast continues to be an audience favourite.

ABC’s New Year’s Eve 2024: Live Concert reached 3.2 million viewers, up from 2.8 million in 2023.

- ABC’s NYE2024 coverage reached 4.4 million viewers last night across TV and ABC iview, up 2% compared to NYE2023’s result of 4.3 million.
- On ABC iview, total NYE2024 coverage reached 476,000 viewers, up 12% compared to NYE2023.
- ABC’s New Year’s Eve 2024: Live Concert was the #1 program last night across Total TV^.
- NYE2024: Live Concert recorded a Total TV National Reach of 3.2 million across TV and ABC iview yesterday, up 14% on the 2023 result of 2.8 million.
- NYE2024: Live Concert reached 331,000 viewers on ABC iview, up 27% on the previous year’s concert.
- NYE2024: Midnight Fireworks reached a combined 2.4m viewers across TV and ABC iview, with ABC iview experiencing 13% growth in overnight BVOD reach.
- ABC was the #1 network in primetime across TV and BVOD yesterday with 33.0% share (33.6% in 2023), followed by Seven with 25.3%.
- ABC iview was the premier destination for NYE celebrations across BVOD platforms, with 46.0% share of all live streaming across primetime last night.
- It was a record streaming day on ABC iview with over 1 million live streams of ABC TV channel yesterday. It was the highest daily result for the channel to date and up 11% compared to NYE2023*.
Social Audiences
ABC’s New Year’s Eve 2024 coverage was live streamed directly to ABC iview’s TikTok, YouTube and Facebook accounts and shared with more than 20 ABC and partner accounts.
- On Facebook, overnight the live streams, highlights and NYE 2024 content amassed a combined total of 1.3 million views on ABC and partner pages.
- On YouTube, ABC TV’s live streams, highlights and NYE 2024 content reached 509K views at the time of reporting.
- On TikTok, ABC iview’s live stream amassed 290.9K views and 137.1K engagements, earning 3.6K new followers, while additional NYE 2024 content across TikTok totaled 190K views.
- On Instagram, audiences held strong with 405k views across highlights.
- Total views across social surpassed 2.5M
NYE Broadcast
The evening’s festivities kicked off at 8.30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview with a groundbreaking Calling Country performance, curated by triple j Blak Out host, Nooky, putting the call out for Australians to move forward together before leading into the 9pm fireworks.
From 9.10pm onwards, the NYE24 concert featured the biggest name in global pop and an American country music favourite, alongside the best acts in Australian music leading into the City of Sydney’s world class fireworks that lit up Sydney Harbour and welcomed in 2025.
