Nine talented artists from across Australia compete in the first heat of Portrait Artist of the Year, each having four hours to capture the likeness of celebrity sitters – renowned artist Ken Done, screen icon and chef Maggie Beer, and Yellow Wiggle Tsehay Hawkins, who each bring a personally significant item.
Employing diverse techniques and mediums, the artists navigate the challenges of capturing their sitter’s essence under pressure, leading to a deliberation by the judges who ultimately select a top three, with one artist advancing to the semi- final.
