High in the South Island’s Mackenzie Country, Lake
Ōhau was the rugged, windswept and isolated spot Richard and Janet Brown fell in love with as a young couple back in 2004. The Brown’s bought a section in Ōhau’s tiny village and decided Ōhau would be a perfect holiday location.
That all went to hell in the middle of the night on Sunday 4 October 2020 when a firestorm swept through Ōhau Village, destroying 48 homes including the Brown’s. who only just escaped with only the clothes they were wearing.
However, with the trauma of the blaze vivid in their minds, Brownie and Janet resolved to build again.
