Young Evonne discovers tennis by chance and hones her skills with a homemade paddle before catching the attention of renowned coach Vic Edwards.
As her talent grows, Vic’s behaviour becomes increasingly possessive. After a breakthrough win and a blossoming romance with Roger Cawley, Vic’s jealousy erupts and leads to a disturbing incident.
As her Wimbledon dream threatens to slip away, she must decide whether she can reclaim her confidence or whether Vic has damaged it beyond repair.
