Award-winning documentary Songs Inside comes to the ABC this December – The ABC is thrilled to announce feature documentary Songs Inside will air on Monday 1 December at 8:30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
This powerful film follows the story of Barkindji singer-songwriter Nancy Bates and her ground-breaking music program to teach women in prison how to play an instrument and write songs about experiences of incarceration.
The women, who come to the program low in confidence and self-worth, are quickly thrown into a world of creativity and blossoming self-determination.
Their journey culminates in a historic performance – the largest concert ever staged within an Australian prison, featuring the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and an audience of over 200 inmates and special guests.
Written and directed by Shalom Almond, Songs Inside has captivated audiences and won accolades at Cinefest Oz, Sydney Film Festival and Adelaide Film Festival, and earned a coveted spot in the Official Selection at Melbourne International Film Festival.
