ABC Upfronts 2026 | ABC unveils new 2026 content slate – The ABC has today unveiled its 2026 content slate, showcasing a dynamic lineup of distinctive Australian programming across broadcast and digital platforms. As ever, the ABC remains the home of Australian stories, reflecting the nation’s voices, creativity and culture.

The ABC achieved standout results across platforms in 2025, including:

  • ABC is the most trusted media brand and most trusted news brand in Australia
  • ABC NEWS is the #1 digital news brand every month in 2025
  • ABC iview is the #1 reaching BVOD service with 3.4 million Australians watching content on ABC iview on average each week
  • ABC Radio reaches 4.751 million listeners each week across the 5 capital city markets and remains the #1 digital streaming audio network.

In 2026, Australian audiences can expect a bold slate of world-class programming across ABC TV, ABC NEWS, ABC iview and ABC listen.

Hugh Marks, ABC Managing Director said

“The ABC is the home of Australian storytelling, and our 2026 slate takes that legacy to the next level. We’re delivering bold, distinctive, and world-class content that connects with audiences across every platform. Today’s announcements – featuring over 100 new and returning titles from our extraordinary talent – showcase the creativity and ambition that define the ABC. I couldn’t be prouder of what we’re creating, and I can’t wait for Australians to experience the power and diversity of our 2026 lineup.”

ABC Director Screen Jennifer Collins said,

“We’re incredibly proud of what’s in store for audiences next year. Our slate features unmissable Australian drama and comedy, a premium arts line-up that continues to set the benchmark for excellence, and new factual titles designed to inform and enlighten. Our world-class children’s and family content will keep young Australians laughing and learning, while our entertainment line-up delivers returning favourites and exciting new original formats. As the nation’s leading commissioner of Australian content, ABC Screen remains committed to excellence – and in 2026, the best is yet to come.”

ABC Director News Justin Stevens said,

“ABC News in 2026 will continue to provide impactful investigative journalism at a local and national level for the public on the issues that matter to them. We’ll bring Australians agenda-setting news and information they know they can trust, with new content initiatives along with returning programs.”

ABC Director Audio Ben Latimer said,

“ABC Audio ends the year as Australia’s No. 1 streaming network. No one reflects the breadth, depth and complexity of Australia quite like the ABC. As we look ahead to 2026, our focus is on making sure what we create remains distinctive and essential.”

SCREEN – SCRIPTED

Based on the best-selling novel by Chris Hammer, Treasure & Dirt brings to life a gripping murder mystery set in a desolate outback opal town, starring Michael Dorman.

Powerful drama Shakedown brings to life the untold human stories behind one of the most shocking political scandals in Australian history. Premium mini-series Goolagong chronicles the life of world champion tennis player and Australian sporting hero Evonne Goolagong.

Heartwarming new series Dog Park, a feel-good story about finding belonging in a group of dog-owners; and beloved comedians Anne Edmonds and Kitty Flanagan unite for Bad Company, set within the crumbling walls of a theatre company on the brink of bankruptcy.

A misfit crew of comedians return to the schoolyard in Class Clowns, where under the watchful eye of Principal Julia Morris, they tackle wildly ridiculous assignments based on classic school subjects. In Tonight at the Museum, host Alex Lee guides four celebrity contestants through games based around priceless objects from the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.

Groundbreaking 90s creative competition series Race Around The World returns, this time with the effervescent Zan Rowe as host. Original provocateur John Safran also returns, this time to judge those who dare to follow in his Race footsteps.

SCREEN – DOCUMENTARY

The 2026 lineup is packed with distinct and boundary-pushing factual programs.

In Shaun Micallef’s Going For Broke, Micallef turns a sober eye on Australia’s lifelong love affair with gambling, while Hamish Macdonald examines the onslaught of misinformation in The Matter of Facts.

Sarah Ferguson presents Tampa: The Boat That Turned the Tide, telling the explosive story of the 2001 Tampa crisis on its 25th anniversary, and Judgment: Cases That Changed Australia explores some of the most compelling High Court cases in history. Rolf Harris: Can You Tell What I Am Yet? delves into the sinister truth behind the performer.

Ages of Ice follows scientists as they research changes in ice on the coldest corners of the planet, and what it means for Earth’s future.

After premiering at Melbourne International Film Festival, feature documentary But Also John Clarke comes to the ABC, weaving together personal anecdotes, archival gems and tales about the man behind the defining satirical voice.

Marc Fennell explores modern masculinity and the rise of the online ‘manosphere’ in The State of Man, and Todd Sampson’s Why? sees the Gruen panellist dive into different communities around the world to figure out what makes them tick.

SCREEN – MUSIC, ARTS & EVENTS

Australian music royalty and multi-instrumentalist Guy Sebastian joins acclaimed classical pianist Andrea Lam and host Amanda Keller on the second season of The Piano, unearthing everyday pianists from all over Australia in a celebration of music as a universal language.

As part of ABC Classic’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 2026, the ABC Young Performers Awards return to spotlight Australia’s most exceptional young musicians.
