Official Sydney WorldPride broadcast kicks off on ABC in 2023.

The countdown to the world’s biggest LGBTQIA+ event, Sydney WorldPride, is on and the ABC is proud to be the broadcast partner for the exciting line-up of once-in-a-lifetime events.

The ABC is set to bring audiences all the loudest, proudest and most important discussions around LGBTQIA+ rights and issues both here in Australia, South East Asia and the rest of the world.

Expect a huge two weeks of celebration, important conversations, party and protest across the ABC.

Key Broadcast Highlights Include:

  • Sunday, 19 February – Mardi Gras Fair Day

ABC Radio Sydney will be broadcasting live on ground at the biggest and best-loved free community event of the season. Favourite ABC presenters will be returning to Sydney’s Victoria Park for the all-day rainbow adventure of community pride and celebration.

  • Saturday 4, 11, 18 and 25 February – Indigenous LGBTIQ+ oral history on RN

What does Pride mean to the Indigenous mob who fought for equality and yet experienced racism and exclusion within the LGBTIQ+ community? How do these trailblazers enact pride in their lives and is the fight really over?

This series of oral histories focuses on the political and the personal, shining a light on the unacknowledged Indigenous activists and now highly respected cultural leaders who led the way. Listen across AWAYE!, Saturday 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th February; and Speaking Out on Friday 24th February.

  • Friday, 24 February – Live and Proud: Sydney World Pride Opening Concert

Broadcasting live from the Domain, join us for the official Opening Concert of WorldPride 2023 as we welcome the world to Sydney. Hosted by Casey Donovan and Courtney Act, featuring Kylie Minogue, Charli XCX and Jessica Mauboy, and broadcast live around the nation on ABC TV and ABC iview, Live and Proud will get the WorldPride party started!

  • Saturday, 25 February – 45th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras

Tune into the live broadcast of the 45th annual Mardi Gras parade, exclusive on ABC TV, ABC iview and triple j.

The parade is back on Oxford Street bigger and better than ever. With over 200 floats and the biggest international presence the parade has ever seen, the ABC will deliver full coverage of many crowd favourites plus heaps of new and exciting float participants.

  • Wednesday, 1 March – Friday 3 March – Sydney WorldPride Human Rights Conference

LGBTQIA+ Activists, community members, political leaders and change agents from across the world will come to Sydney in March 2023 to take part in the largest LGBTQIA+ human rights conference ever hosted in the southern hemisphere.

Highlights from the conference will stream on ABC iview and covered daily on triple j Hack.

  • Sunday, 5 March – Blak & Deadly: The First Nations Gala Concert

Made by and for First Nations people, everyone is welcome at this glittering event. This is your chance to experience a rainbow explosion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait LGBTQIA+SB artistry, across a two-hour concert starring Jessica Mauboy, Electric Fields and Casey Donovan and hosted by Steven Oliver.

ABC Radio will broadcast the concert post the live event.

  • Sunday, 5 March – Pride March

50,000 people in their brightest colours will walk across the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, in a powerful international statement of visibility.

ABC NEWS and ABC Radio Sydney will be covering this historic moment.

  • Queerstralia, a new landmark documentary series hosted by award-winning comedian Zoë Coombs Marr, will premiere in 2023. The three-part series will look into the untold and frankly fascinating Queer history of Australia.

A suite of LGBTQIA+ archive content and programs are currently available on ABC iview and ABC listen, including Innies + Outies, the podcast that brings you fascinating stories from diverse LGBTQIA+ Australians about coming out any staying in.

Stay tuned for more announcements to come in 2023.
