Johanna’s enlisted one of Better Homes and Garden’s resident Melbournians, Melissa, to help her find out all there is to know about one of the city’s most sought-after suburbs: Clifton Hill. Just 4km north of Melbourne’s CBD, Clifton Hill is a quiet, green oasis that’s particularly popular with downsizers. But who else should consider making it a place to call home? And just how much will it cost you? Johanna and Melissa are finding out.
ADAM – DON’T KNOCK THE SHED DOWN
Last week, Adam and Charlie transformed a barren backyard into the ultimate entertaining space, complete with a servery created from the existing, but very shabby, shed. This week, Adam’s back to show you how he did it. Like many old Aussie sheds, this one was covered in asbestos sheeting, so Adam’s brought in the experts to get rid of it safely and he’s sharing all the steps you need to know if you’re removing asbestos at your place. With a little bit of reframing where necessary, a new door, window, sink and benchtop, this once-dilapidated shed will be transformed into a stylish servery…and the crowning glory of this backyard entertaining space.

COLIN – CORNED BEEF & WHITE SAUCE
Corned beef is an Irish classic that’s popular in many Aussie homes, too. But done wrong, it can taste like a whole lot of nothing. So, Colin’s showing you how to do it right. He’s making the ultimate corned beef with white sauce and showing us why this dish has remained a popular favourite for so long.
JULIET – FASHION FLIP FOREVER
Did you know that 87% of the materials used to make clothing end up in landfill? That’s one truck-full per second…and it makes the fashion industry one of the most polluting in the world. This week, Juliet’s meeting an ex-Vogue editor whose doing something about it. Stylist Jo Gambale is a slow fashion advocate who wants us to shop from our own closets before buying something new. She holds ‘Flip Fashion Forever’ events, where young people are taught how to ‘flip’ second-hand clothes into something new, stylish and unique. Juliet’s coming along to one of Jo’s workshops to find out how old clothes can become new again…and help save the world in the process.

Charlie’s tackling two azaleas with different levels of spider mite damage, each requiring a different treatment. Along the way, he’s sharing his tips on how to spot a spider mite infestation on your plants and how to know when damage is beyond repair.
DR HARRY – IRIS LODGE ALPACAS
With over 120 alpacas and loads of llamas, you’d be forgiven for thinking Dr Harry’s travelled to the Andes, but he’s actually only an hour and half north of Sydney. From buying an old dairy farm so they could ride their horses, to now having over 300 animals including chickens, cows and sheep, Harry meets the couple whose tree-change has grown larger than they ever expected. But it’s the alpacas who are the stars of the show.
CLARISSA – INDIAN YELLOW CURRY
It’s the perfect time of year to stay indoors, curl up on the couch with a good book and hibernate a little. But you’ll need some food, and a great comfort food is an Indian curry. With so many vegetables, cumin, mustard seeds, chilli, curry leaves and so much more, this dish is packed full of vitamins to keep you healthy and won’t fail to tickle your tastebuds.
GRAHAM – DEEPDENE FOREST GARDEN WALKAROUND
A well-designed garden will look good all year-round, and the Deepdene Forest Garden is testament to that. But it’s no surprise, given that it’s rumoured to have been designed in the 1860’s by none other than the creator of Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Garden, Robert Guilfoyle, himself. A recent restoration was a collaboration between landscape designer, Ian Barker and his team, the garden-loving homeowners and of course nature, to successfully combine the defined heritage-era style with modern landscape practices. This ensured the garden retained its charm, rich horticultural history and will continue to thrive for another hundred and fifty years.
