Seven’s Supercars and Bruce McAvaney recognised by Australian Sport Commission – Seven takes home two prestigious media awards.
The Seven Network has been recognised with two honours at the Australian Sport Commission (ASC) Media Awards at the Sydney Cricket Ground last night, with Seven’s 2025 Bathurst 1000 coverage and legendary broadcaster Bruce McAvaney both taking home top accolades.
Hailed as one of the greatest Supercars Championship races ever, Seven’s coverage of the 2025 Repco Bathurst 1000 captured every thrilling, emotional and unpredictable moment of Matt Payne and Garth Tander’s monumental victory on Mount Panorama.
Claiming the biggest audience for the Bathurst 1000 since 2016 and a record Supercars audience on 7plus Sport, the broadcast reached more than 5.9 million Australians live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport.
Seven’s second win at the 2026 ASC Media Awards recognised Australia’s most revered sport commentator, Bruce McAvaney, who accepted the Best Sport Coverage By An Individual – Broadcast award.
During his acceptance speech, Bruce McAvaney said:
“It’s an enormous honour. You’re the front person for a team in roles like this and that’s what makes it so enjoyable, you’re part of an exceptional team.
“The Commonwealth Games is very much on my mind at the moment and we were reminded tonight that it is the only multi-sport event in the world with that integration of para-athletes and able-bodied athletes and that is what so much of tonight has been about,”
– he said.
“It’s wonderful winning these awards but the greatest gift is opportunity and just getting the chance. I’m the luckiest bloke in the world.”
Seven’s Supercars coverage in 2026 commenced last weekend with the Repco Sydney 500 and continues with the NTI Townsville 500 in July, while Bruce McAvaney will feature throughout the year on Seven’s horse racing and athletics coverage as well as the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games from Thursday, 23 July 2026.
