Outback Crystal Hunters returns for new season, unearthing treasure in Western Australia’s rugged terrain – A new generation of crystal hunters seeking fortune will make their Australian debut in the second season of Outback Crystal Hunters, set to premiere on 7mate tonight.

Supported by Screenwest and Lotterywest, Outback Crystal Hunters Season 2 has been filmed across Australia, including in the vast Western Australian landscapes of the Gascoyne and Pilbara.

Produced by Fremantle-based Prospero Productions and narrated by Perth-born Tristan Gorey (Mystery Road: Origin, The Heights, Kid Snow), the eight hour-long episodes follow seven intrepid teams as they journey across almost insurmountable terrain to mine dangerous ground.

The teams face ancient caves, sheer precipices and pits of unfathomable depths as they battle to discover dazzling crystals millions of years old, unseen by human eyes.

Series Directed by Mike Hoath, Series Produced by John Carrozzi and Executive Produced by Julia Redwood, the new season comes after the successful first series unearthed Australia’s largest amethyst cluster weighing 21 tonnes.Prospero Productions Managing Director Julia Redwood said: “The audience reaction to the show has been fantastic both in Australia and around the world so we are so excited to be bringing it back for a second season!”

Series Producer John Carrozzi said:

“I don’t think there’s any other location on earth that captures the mystical allure of crystals more than the Gascoyne and Pilbara regions in Western Australia. The unique beauty of this ancient land offers an endless array of postcard perfect vistas from the air and on the land. Endless blue skies and the blazing stars of the Milky Way contrast against the vast vermillion gorges and enduring rock formations. The sunrise and sunset bring an explosion of wildlife, sound, and colour. For a true Outback experience that translates seamlessly onto the screen, Western Australia is second to none.”

Series Director Mike Hoath said:

“Filming Outback Crystal Hunters presents significant challenges, as our crews must capture compelling stories while navigating extreme conditions in some of Australia’s most remote outback locations. Fortunately, Western Australia has fostered a talented pool of documentary field practitioners, capable of handling these demanding environments. This is largely due to the state’s ongoing support for documentary television programs and the investments made by local production companies in upskilling local crew members through their long-running and returnable outback-based documentary series. I’m proud to be able to say Outback Crystal Hunters is predominantly produced and filmed by Western Australian producers and camera operators.”

Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest Chief Executive Officer said:

“Outback Crystal Hunters has become a highly anticipated series that showcases Western Australia’s stark, rugged wilderness and the relentless pursuits of its dedicated treasure seekers to global audiences. Most importantly, Prospero continues to show a strong commitment to supporting local creatives, I look forward to seeing their work on-screen.”

Outback Crystal Hunters Season 2 will premiere tonight (29 September) at 7:30pm on 7mate, with episodes dropping weekly on 7plus.
