AHEDA Announce Gold and Platinum Digital Sales Awards for Australian Home Entertainment Success – In a global first, the Australian Home Entertainment Distributors Association (AHEDA), is excited to announce the introduction of the AHEDA Gold and Platinum Digital Sales Awards.
With a digital category growth of 49% YoY in 2025, the inaugural awards will formally recognise the fast-growing value of retail film sales and rentals within Australia.
Australians are consuming premium screen content at home in record numbers, highlighted in 2025, with hits like Jurassic World: Rebirth, F1: The Movie, Wicked, Superman and Minecraft, contributing to an overall 8% boost in the home entertainment market and over 21,000,000 purchases.
The establishment of performance benchmarks provides a credible, market-recognised standard of achievement for filmmakers and distributors, whilst highlighting the success of both independent break-out hits and major franchise blockbusters.
Similar to the long running, well-known tradition of gold and platinum certifications created by the Recording Industry Association of America, the AHEDA Digital Sales Awards signify the increasing enjoyment audiences have demonstrated for watching premiere content from the comfort of their living rooms. Consumers have an increasing appetite for choosing to buy or rent the latest releases online from trusted digital platforms, allowing them to watch what they want, when they want, with no subscriptions and no ads.
The Award Tiers will be as follows:
- Platinum Status ($5M+ in digital sales) – The highest distinction, celebrating exceptional market impact and consumer demand.
- Gold Status ($3M – $5M in digital sales) – Recognizing significant commercial success in the digital transactional space.
Digital sales data for the AHEDA awards has been collated by NielsenIQ, AHEDA’s data and validation provider.

“Industry recognised sales awards have long been established across various international entertainment markets, such as the RIAA Gold & Platinum Certifications for Music and the MPAA’s Theatrical Box Office Milestones. While being powerful marketing and promotional tools, these awards validate commercial success, celebrate and build credibility for producers and distributors and create tangible recognitions within the industry, the media and consumers.
“Introducing AHEDA’s Gold & Platinum Digital Sales Awards brings Australia in line with these global practices, offering a clear benchmark for digital distribution excellence and reinforcing the commercial viability of digital transactional and the crucial support of future investment in premium digital content across the country.
“We’ve received strong support from key industry stakeholders, including film studios, independent distributors, digital platforms and retail partners.”
