Sony announced as official camera technology partner of Tropfest 2026 – Tropfest is proud to announce Sony as the Official Camera Technology Partner for Tropfest 2026. Sony’s cutting-edge camera technology has been integral to filmmakers at every stage of careers — from first-time short filmmakers to industry leaders working at the highest level.
On Sunday 22 February, Sony will give $50,000 worth of cameras to Tropfest award winners, reinforcing its commitment to supporting emerging filmmakers. Each of the first, second and third place winners will receive a Sony camera and lens combo valued at $13k for first placed, and $10k for second and third placed, in addition to the Commbank Tropfest Emerging Filmmakers Fund ($50k, $30k and $20k respectively)and a Google package.
Sony will also present a dedicated Cinematography Award, celebrating outstanding visual storytelling and technical craft, with the winner of that award receiving a complete Sony camera and lens package valued at $19,800.
Sony’s involvement will extend beyond the Tropfest event itself, also hosting a session within Tropfest Roughcut, the filmmaker development program. Delivered alongside other leading industry professionals, the two-day event – taking place at NIDA just prior to the Tropfest Main Event — will focus on cinematography, technical practice, and career journeys, offering filmmakers practical insight and inspiration as they develop their work.
