MOVIE | The Pout-Pout Fish for New Year’s Day – Maslow Entertainment today revealed the ‘o-fish-ial’ trailer and release date for the delightful family feature film,THE POUT-POUT FISH, set to make waves in Australian cinemas from New Year’s Day (January 1, 2026).
Based on the best-selling children’s book series, this heartwarming and hilarious Aussie-mation from award-winning Brisbane-based studio Like A Photon Creative features a stellar international and local voice cast led by Emmy winner Nick Offerman, Nina Oyama, Grammy nominee Jordin Sparks, Emmy nominee Amy Sedaris, Remy Hii and Miranda Otto, alongside a host of Australian comedy greats such as Nazeem Hussain, Anne Edmonds, Lloyd Langford and Mel Buttle.
Making its way to the big screen 17 years after the book was published, the global franchise is cherished in classes and homes around the world, having sold more than 10 million copies and been translated into countless languages.










A story of friendship, bravery and self-discovery, the epic screen adaptation is directed by Ricard Cussó (Combat Wombat: Back 2 Back, Scarygirl) and co-directed by Rio Harrington and produced by Nadine Bates and Kristen Souvlis from Like a Photon Creative (The Lost Tiger, Combat Wombat: Back 2 Back, Scarygirl) and Madeira Ginley and Cyma Zarghami from MIMO Studios.
This must-‘sea’ movie follows an unlikely duo: Mr. Fish (Offerman), a pouty recluse, and Pip (Oyama), a hyperactive sea dragon.
When catastrophe strikes, they must embark on a daunting, undersea quest in search of a fabled mythical fish, Shimmer (Sparks), to grant their wish to save their homes.
Jordin Sparks has also recorded an original song for the film.
Jacqui Feeney, Screen Queensland CEO said that The Pout-Pout Fish will be the summer family film to see, giving cinemagoers plenty to smile about.

In additional ‘fin’-tastic news, the film has secured US theatrical distribution with a launch date of 20 March 2026 and will be playing at over 2,000 cinemas nationwide, making it one of the widest Australian animation releases of all time.
