MOVIE | The Ballad of Wallis Island trailer – Charming comedy, THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND, will be available in Australian cinemas from 28 August, 2025.
Directed by James Griffiths (Wrecked) and starring three-time Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan (Maestro), and BAFTA nominees Tom Basden (After Life)and Tim Key (Alan Partridge), it’s a poignant and comical exploration of music, loss, nostalgia and hope.
Inspired by Key and Basden’s 2007 BAFTA nominated short film The One and Only Herb McGwyer Plays Wallis Island, the film follows an eccentric lottery winner Charles (Key), who dreams of getting his favorite musicians, folk duo McGwyer Mortimer (played by Basden and Mulligan), back together.
The fantasy becomes real when the bandmates and former lovers agree to play a private show at his home on Wallis Island. Old tensions resurface as Charles tries desperately to salvage his dream gig.
Combining laughs with deep emotion, this beautifully performed film is pitch perfect.
