MOVIE | Mortal Kombat II brings the fight home to Australia with Sydney and Gold Coast tour – Warner Bros. Pictures is thrilled to announce that the cast and filmmakers behind the latest instalment of New Line Cinema’s blockbuster video game franchise, MORTAL KOMBAT II, will return to Australia for a special local tour, with screening events set to take place in Sydney and the Gold Coast.
The Australian tour celebrates the film’s strong local roots, with MORTAL KOMBAT II filmed extensively on the Gold Coast, proudly supported by Screen Queensland, and directed by Australian filmmaker Simon McQuoid, who returns to the helm following the success of the first film in 2021.
The production also highlights the work of a predominantly Queensland crew, whose expertise underpins the film’s signature, high stakes action.
Leading the tour is Karl Urban, who joins the franchise in the iconic role of “Johnny Cage”, alongside Australian stars and returning fan favorites Jessica McNamee and Josh Lawson, reprising their roles as as “Sonya Blade” and “Kano”. They are joined by Chin Han as “Shang Tsung” and fellow Australian cast members Ana Thu Nguyen and CJ Bloomfield, further underscoring the film’s strong regional representation.

The tour will begin with a Sydney Fan Screening at IMAX Sydney on May 4th, before the Official Australian Preview on the Gold Coast on May 5th where the cast & filmmakers will be joined by additional cast and crew in a proud celebration of Australia’s role in bringing the film to life.
MORTAL KOMBAT II will release in Australian cinemas on May 7.
