Global stars on set in NSW for Street Fighter production – The NSW Government and Legendary Pictures are pleased to announce that production is underway in Sydney on the upcoming action-packed feature film Street Fighter.

This is the latest large-scale screen project to call NSW home, with production set to create 317 local jobs (24 cast and 293 crew) and generate an estimated $80 million in expenditure across the state.

Based on the hit Capcom video game Street Fighter, the film is scheduled to wrap in late October with shooting on location across Sydney and at Moore Park’s Disney Studios Australia.

The film is being directed by Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip) and the cast features Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Callina Liang, Jason Momoa, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoai, Cody Rhodes, Eric André, and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

Along with world class cast, crews, locations and studios, part of the attraction to filming in Sydney is support of Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund, which is designed to advance NSW as a destination for international and local feature films and major television drama programs.

Street Fighter joins other big-budget screen projects which have recently been in production in NSW including Amazon MGM Studio’s Play Dirty, starring Mark Wahlberg and LaKeith Stanfield, Disney+’s Australian Original series The Artful Dodger, and Netflix’s Apex, starring Charlize Theron, Taron Edgerton and Eric Bana.

Attracting overseas productions is one part of the NSW Government’s NSW Screen and Digital Games Strategy. Other key initiatives to support the screen and digital games industries include:
  • Establishing a $100 million capital fund to find a location for a second film studio for Sydney.
  • $280 million in support for Made in NSW Fund and Post, Digital and Visual Effects and Digital Games Rebate programs.
  • Cutting red tape to make it easier to film on location across NSW.
  • Creating a stand-alone Digital Games strategy, to power the development of the NSW Digital Games industry, set to be released in the coming months.
Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy John Graham said:

“I’d like to welcome Ken, Ryu and Chun-Li to Australia’s powerhouse of screen production – NSW.

“We have some of the best actors, crews and locations in the world so it’s great to see another Hollywood production shooting in NSW.

“This will put 317 of our talented cast and crew to work and generate $80 million in expenditure for the state. It’s good for our screen industry, it’s good for our economy.

“The government is backing more global productions to shoot in NSW at the same time as creating more opportunities for more local stories to hit the screen.”

Executive Vice President, Physical Production, Legendary Pictures Herb Gains said:

“Street Fighter required a wide spectrum of location aesthetics, and following extensive global research and scouting, we found that New South Wales was best equipped to meet our production needs while offering remarkable versatility and scope.”
