Postcards on Channel 9 and 9Now (8 September) – Join the Postcards team this week as they check out new “staycay” and day-trip locations as well as the Australian Ballet Company’s newest production, at 3.30pm Sunday on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Brodie Harper checks out the most comfortable and convenient stay just a five-minute walk to the terminals at Melbourne Airport (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). This brand-new hotel village at the airport is the perfect precinct to enjoy a staycay, with Small Holdings cafe providing a good cup of St Ali coffee and Boccata Restaurant & Bar serving up dinner. There are two hotels on the property, the premium budget Ibis Styles and the more luxurious Novotel. Brodie checks into the Novotel, then heads to Arundel Farm Estate, a boutique family-run winery nestled in the hills of the Keilor valley just a ten minute drive away. After a wine tasting, she returns to the precinct to relax at Higher State, Melbourne’s first airport health and wellbeing club.

Madeline Spark is up in the Dandenongs (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country) for the day. She starts her mini-mountain road trip in Ferny Creek, just under an hour’s drive from Melbourne, where she stops by one of her favourite bakeries, Proserpina Bakehouse, for a coffee and a bite for the road. Making her way down the windy Mount Dandenong Tourist Road, she finds herself at the bespoke Truffaux Hat Shop, whose owner Oska Truffaux is the person to know when on the hunt for the perfect Panama hat. Madeline then settles in for a long lunch by the fire at Cistrine Bistro & Bar in Olinda village.

Livinia Nixon gets a sneak peek behind the curtain of the Australian Ballet Company’s new production, Oscar.

While the Melbourne Arts Precinct undergoes renovations, the Regent Theatre (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country) is the temporary home for the ballet, which will premiere Oscar next month. A new CBD location brings the company closer to Melbourne’s best dining venues, including Andrew McConnell’s Cumulus Inc. which is offering a free glass of sparkling to all ballet patrons. After a delicious meal and bubbles at Cumulus Inc., Livinia is off to the rehearsal studios in Southbank to meet artistic director David Hallberg and the team behind Oscar

And Kris Smith explores Melbourne’s second smallest suburb, Ripponlea. First up, he heads into Firebrand Sourdough Bakery hotspot to grab a loaf of their tasty sourdough they’ve been making the same way for nearly four decades. He then spends some time people-watching down the road at Rippon Lea Estate, a historic mansion with gardens open for the public to enjoy. He tops off the day tucking into Mexican food and margaritas at Mission District with owners Tom and Jenna Davies.
