Inside Sydney Airport on SBS – In this ten-part series for SBS, our team takes viewers behind the scenes at one of the busiest airports in the Southern Hemisphere, Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport.
Positioned on Botany Bay, Sydney Airport is the gateway to the Pacific Ocean with up to 180,000 people entering the airport precinct every day. Volatile weather patterns, security breaches, technical issues and the human element place pressure on keeping the 900 flights safely on schedule.
Series One, Episode Two: Lightning Strike
Lightning has struck an incoming international flight. Engineers assess the damage, as passengers become increasingly impatient.
High winds lead to runway closures, adding pressure to flight schedules. Another plane arrives with potentially dangerous liquid leaking from its cargo, while three ground crew who came in contact are quarantined until fire services can identify the liquid.
