Better Homes and Gardens on Channel 7 and 7plus S30E27 – storyline rundown for episode 27, 2024, screening at 7.00pm on Friday 2 August on 7 and 7plus.
CLARISSA – CLAYPOT CHICKEN RICE
Family recipes passed from one generation to the next have one ingredient you can’t measure, love. Clarissa’s going to share with you one of her family favourites, passed on to her by her mum. This Claypot Chicken Rice is easy to prep, easy to cook and extremely delicious. Featuring Chinese sausage and shitake mushrooms marinated in a thick soy sauce, this dish is stacked full of flavour.
JOHANNA – BUILD BETTER WITH JOOST BAKKER
Joost Bakker is the poster boy for zero-waste living. The florist-turned-activist wants to save the world and that includes inspiring us all to build our homes sustainably. Joost is the man behind the world famous and attention-grabbing installations such as the Future Food System House in Melbourne’s Fed Square. He takes Joh on a tour of his own home – a place he built himself using reclaimed and eco-friendly materials. But his next building project, his mum’s new home, will take his eco-ideas to the next level. With Joost’s concepts, we don’t have to be anxious about the future, we just have to be proactive.
ADAM – A SIMPLE GATE
Does your garden gate look ok, but upon closer inspection it’s rotting and overdue for replacement? Well, you’re not the only one and as Adam explains, a gate that doesn’t shut properly risks the safety of our kids and our pets. If your old timber framed gate is too far gone to be restored, Adam’s got a long-lasting and easier to make option, a prefabricated metal frame you can buy off the shelf at your hardware store. Timber slats give this new gate a classic look and all this can be done in a day!
COLIN – SMOKY EGGPLANT PASTA
Eating a little less meat is good for us and good for the planet. With that in mind, Colin’s going to teach you to cook the best vegetarian dish you’ll eat all year, Smoky Eggplant Pasta. Charring the eggplant brings a smokiness to compliment the range of flavours and textures brought by the vegetables and Orecchiette pasta. It’s a bit rough, rustic and a surefire winner, just like Colin.
CHARLIE – EVOLVING BACKYARD: STAGE ONE
With the cost of living going up and stretching household budgets, you may not have as much money to transform your back garden as you once did. So, Charlie will transform the one backyard three times with the budget increasing each time to show you what you get for various levels of spend. And of course, there’ll be lots of cost saving tips along the way. In this first week, a plain, square backyard is given the least expensive makeover; adding edging, plants and steppingstones to give it some interest. Next week, the budget goes up and so does the garden.
MELISSA – HELLEBORES: THE WINTER ROSE
For the rose lovers out there, winter can be a real drag. So, Melissa is going to brighten up the season by showing off “the winter rose”, Hellebores. She visits a nursery to delight in the myriad varieties and talks to an expert about propagating. She’ll also show you the art of this breeding process and how you can prolong the life of the Hellebore’s beauty with a simple floral display.
JULIET – REDRESS YOUR WARDROBE
Old free-standing wardrobes are often forgotten about in the modern era of built-ins, but with their fine detailing and old-world appeal, they present a great opportunity to add some charm to your bedroom. Juliet transforms just such a wardrobe, not only giving it a new colour scheme, but adding some extra storage to the bottom. With more functionality and a boost in height, this old wardrobe has a new lease on life.
DR HARRY – THE GREAT NUNDLE DOG RACE
Forget the race that stops the nation, Dr Harry travels to country NSW for The Great Nundle Dog Race. What began over 40 years ago as a bet between a couple of locals has now become a much-loved community event, with hundreds and hundreds of visitors and their dogs, even coming from interstate. After a series of challenges, the “Great Race” is reserved for working dogs only, with the winner receiving a bunch of prizes and a place on the winner’s shield. And no surprise all the dogs love it!
