The first ever season of WNBL on ESPN begins with live grand final rematch

For the first time ever the WNBL will be live on ESPN this Wednesday November 2, with a season opening blockbuster Grand Final rematch between the Perth Lynx and Melbourne Boomers.

ESPN will deliver LIVE primetime women’s basketball every Wednesday evening with a dedicated ‘Game Of The Week’, across the 16 week regular season.

ESPN will also air the WNBL Finals in full, including the Semi Final series and Grand Final.

The new WNBL season begins on ESPN, Wednesday November 2, live at 9.30pm AEDT as the Perth Lynx meet the Melbourne Boomers.

The season opener is a Grand Final rematch from last season, where the Melbourne Boomers were crowned WNBL champions, defeating Perth over the three game series.

Melbourne’s title defence will begin on the road, with the Lynx looking to land an early blow to open the new campaign.

Australian basketball legend Lauren Jackson returns to the WNBL this season with the Southside Flyers, following a stunning international swansong for the Australian Opals at the recent FIBA Women’s World Cup in Sydney.

With the addition of Jackson, the Flyers loom as championship contenders, led by Captain Aimie Rocci.

The Sydney Uni Flames have also shown tremendous pre-season form, having defeated both the Boomers and Flyers in trial matches. Shyla Heal and Keely Froling will be crucial to the Flames side, coached by ex-Boomer Shane Heal.

Expert commentator Jason Bennett will lead the WNBL commentary team this season, alongside analysts’ Opals legends Michele Timms and Jenni Screen.

The WNBL joins the NBA, NBL, WNBA, NCAA and FIBA on the undisputed home of basketball ‘Your Home For Hoops’ – ESPN.
