Postcards on Channel 9 – Join the Postcards team this week as they revisit some of their favourite destinations, at 5.30pm Sunday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Kris Smith takes an hour’s drive east of Melbourne to the Yarra Valley and Coldstream (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). To start the day he visits a new-age grocery store, Getaway Market Yarra Valley, a combined food market, cafe and greenhouse that gives customers the opportunity to pick produce straight from the plant to their plate.
He winds up at Coombe Yarra Valley, enjoying the revitalised historic gardens and a glass of wine at the venue’s new extended cellar door.
Brodie Harper takes a drive to Mount Martha (Boonwurrung Country) to explore The Balcombe Estuary Boardwalk, a dog-friendly bushland circuit that takes in creeks and open areas. It’s cared for by the passionate volunteer group, the Balcombe Estuary Reserves Group. After working up an appetite Brodie heads to South Beach Project, a relaxed beachside cafe on the esplanade, and catches up with co-owner David Weill.
We find Livinia Nixon exploring the back streets of Richmond (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). From the Rowena Corner Store, a local cafe and food store with a Mediterranean vintage vibe, she takes a brisk walk to another neighbourhood treasure, Lindberg Galleries. Then she brushes up on the art of Italian cooking at the La Cucina di Sandra school run by Melbourne chef Sandra Del Greco from her Richmond kitchen.
Meanwhile, Todd Woodbridge is in Harcourt (Dja Dja Wurrung Country) where his first stop is the Harcourt Produce and General Store, for a delicious meal and chat with the owner, Annette Larsen. At the Rodilesa Nursery he grabs a coffee from its cafe, the Nosh and Bevy, before wandering around the plants. Todd follows up with a tasting at Henry of Harcourt, a family-run orchard specialising in traditional cider recipes and boutique varieties.
