Postcards on Channel 9 and 9Now S27E18 – The Postcards team welcome guest presenters Sammy J and Chris Kohler to the show, this Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
9News Finance Editor Chris Kohler swaps money news for news about Footscray (Bunurong Country and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country), a suburb known for its trendy cafes, community-led art scene and multicultural food. He first visits Dumbo, a milkbar-turned-cafe with an ever-changing global menu.
Next he’s off to The Chestnut Tree on Barkly Street, a bookshop offering a caffeine fix and a quiet haven for book lovers and families. Chris then immerses himself in the flavours of Argentina at Caminito La Boca, a family-style canteen serving traditional Argentinian food.
For his first Postcards presentation, comedian and media personality Sammy J hits Dja Dja Wurrung Country to explore Harcourt, a regional Victorian town 90 minutes north of Melbourne, replete with rugged scenery, warm hospitality and delicious local produce.
His day begins at the Harcourt Coolstore, a true locals’ cafe open on weekdays, serving solid coffee, tea and a variety of classic and special toasties with melted cheese. Afterwards, he checks out Le Coq Door, a new spot ruffling feathers in the old pub on the main street. Sammy then gears up to explore Harcourt’s renowned mountain biking terrain at La Larr Ba Gauwa Park, guided by Roz Bradley, president of the Bendigo Mountain Bike Club.Â
Lauren Phillips explores stylish inner-south Prahran (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country and Bunurong Country), starting on Greville Street at Urku Chocolate, a premium chocolate house focusing on ethically sourced cacao and offering educational and delicious tasting sessions.
Across the road she finds Gigi, a glamorous Eurocentric bar bringing a touch of Parisian high society to Prahran, ideal for Sunday high tea or an elegant nightcap. Lauren finishes off at Suzie Q; a vibrant spot inspired by a 1980s San Francisco underground Chinese restaurant, that is known for its red lights, bold flavours and groovy atmosphere.
And this week we find Brodie Harper in funky Brunswick (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country), venturing off Sydney Road to discover hidden gems along the Upfield Shared Path. Like Osoi, a cosy, Japanese-inspired space off Albion Street designed for patrons to slow down and enjoy the hand-whisked match as and homemade chai.
A hundred metres up the path, Studio Arthouse Gallery Australia (SAGA) awaits on Tinning Street, an artist-run gallery, event space and studio hub that’s a testament to Brunswick’s creative spirit. Brodie wraps up her tour at Nina’s Bar and Dining on Florence Street, a restaurant focused on bringing the community together with seasonal, local ingredients and sustainable practices. Â
