Livinia Nixon takes viewers on a Greek tour of the CBD (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). She begins at the Hellenic Museum, Australia’s only museum dedicated to Greek art, history and culture, with curator Sara Prica, looking at the current exhibition: “Gods, Myths and Morals”. Then she heads to the popular strip between Swanston and Russell Street known as Little Greece. Melbourne institution Stalactites is her second stop, before visiting Fable, a rooftop bar and restaurant on the 13th floor of the Greek Community Building, where she enjoys a cocktail and a chat with Monique Dignan-Smith, the marketing manager.
We find Kris Smith in Ballarat (Wathaurong Country) embracing the chilly winter weather. First up he enjoys the “Pre-Raphaelites: Drawings and Watercolours” art exhibition that has come all the way from Oxford in England to the Art Gallery of Ballarat. Then he’s off to the luxury of the Hotel Vera, where art lovers can extend their trip to Ballarat, before a short ride to Wattle Flat and Black Cat Truffles by Liam Downes and a catch-up with award-winning chef Liam Downes, who treats him to a chicken and truffle pie.
Meanwhile, Lauren Phillips checks out the highest observation deck in the southern hemisphere, Melbourne Skydeck in Southbank (Boonwurrung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). She meets Cesar Piotto, its executive general manager, at Bar 88 for food and drinks before stepping onto The Edge, a glass box suspended nearly 300 metres above street level. There she is immersed in one of the two virtual reality experiences Skydeck has to offer, the Voyager Theatre, on her way to the top floor of the building and one of Melbourne’s best fine dining experiences at Eureka 89, with executive chef Renee Martillano.
And Madeline Spark is in Bentleigh (Boonwurrung Country) amid all the op shops. At the St Vincent de Paul Society, volunteer Elizabeth Thomas shows her around for some thrift shopping, before she gets her hands dirty at the Cones Studio creating pottery. To finish up, she visits the Artisanal Bakehouse to sample the very more-ish French pastries with chef David Caillaud.
