Postcards on Channel 9 – Join the Postcards team as they salute the beating heart of Mildura and discover Melbourne’s sustainable side, at 5.30pm Sunday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Brodie Harper takes viewers six kilometres out of the CBD to Hawthorn (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). At the Melbourne Tram Museum, housed in the heritage-listed Hawthorn Tram Depot and home to 20 fully restored trams, she meets volunteer Mal Rowe to hear about the evolution of trams.
Then it’s on to Motor, a European-inspired wine bar and bistro inside a 111-year-old heritage garage. Co-owned by Demons ruckman Max Gawn with Craig Tate and Rich Donovan, the bar is a neighbourhood-friendly space suitable for any occasion. Brodie’s last stop is a short walk up Glenferrie Road to Kori, a Japanese-themed ice creamery, to catch up with ex-Coda chef and owner Joane Yeoh.
We find Todd Woodbridge in vibrant Mildura (Latje Latje Country) for My Room Children’s Cancer Charity, ahead of the Footy Show Grand Final Eve: My Room Telethon on September 29 on Channel 9 and 9Now. At the Kaffenio cafe, which serves Mediterranean-style dishes for breakfast and lunch, he meets charity CEO Margaret Zita to hear about Kaffenio’s telethon sponsorship.
On the main street he visits Italian restaurant 400 Gradi, whose manager, Louis Di Francesco, explains the impact My Room is having on regional centres like Mildura.
To work off the feast, Todd plays a few holes at the Mildura Golf Resort with its captain, Gary Fumberger, who tells him how the resort is also supporting My Room.
Madeline Spark is exploring Flemington (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country), starting at Croix Croissant, a bakery specialising in pastries, with owner Rizka Pisputa. Just a three-minute drive away, Madeline arrives at Pepper, Simon Peterson’s cosy cafe that’s been a local favourite for 15 years. She then heads up the road for an exciting experience at Escape Room Melbourne with owner Owen Spear. Together they enjoy a mystery-filled room with immersive challenges that need to be solved in order to escape.
And Livinia Nixon is in the CBD (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country) showcasing environmentally friendly venues like Seedling in Flinders Lane, a cafe using whole-food ingredients and minimal processing. Livinia opts for the spiced waffles with a chai latte before visiting Laneway Learning, a community centre offering cheap classes for adults on a variety of topics. She ends up at Rewine, a sustainable wine bar that sells wine straight from the barrel and encourages customers to refill their bottles, enjoying a glass and a cheese board with owner Marshall Waters.
