Nine Upfronts 2024 – The Nine Upfronts 2024 were held on 6 September and provided advertisers with a slick presentation that was headlined by the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Nine hinted at a secret project(s) for Tracy Grimshaw and has Australian drama at the centre with Human Error and Blood on the Tracks: The Platform Killer.
Tipping Point is set to takeover the 5pm slot in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane in 2024 – replacing Millionaire Hot Seat. The new Australian iteration will be hosted by Australian tennis champion and commentator, Todd Woodbridge.
Upfronts predominately focus on key announcements so not every new or returning show can be announced. So each year, I take a deep dive, for the viewers into what else might be returning or not returning in the coming year.
Not returning
Rush
The Weakest Link
Take Me Home
Children’s Hospital
Matt Wright’s Wild Territory
Say Yes to the Dress Australia
Country Home Rescue
Skin A+E
Dream Listing: Byron Bay
The First Responders Live
David Genat was a break out star host of Rush and will remain with Nine for future projects, however, Rush did not pick up a mass appeal audience and will not return.
Matt Wright’s Wild Territory was a Netflix acquisition with the streamer having no plans for a second season. Say Yes to the Dress Australia was an acquisition previously screened in 2016 with no plans for a new season.
Due to the premise of the series, Country Home Rescue was a one off special.
Nine only acquired the first two seasons of Skin A+E, so has no plans to show the third season.
Still to be announced
Police Rescue Australia
Australia Behind Bars
Mega Zoo
Missing Persons Investigations (currently on air)
Returning
Taronga: Who’s Who in the Zoo
Country House Hunters Australia
Young Sheldon
La Brea
Law and Order: Organised Crime
Escape to the Chateau
Race Across the World
No surprises here, with US outlets having confirmed new seasons. Chicago Med is currently on air but Nine has a further season up its sleeve. The Equalizer is currently airing with the show renewed for a further season, albeit delayed in airing due to the writer’s strike. No clue from Nine on why Young Sheldon is continually significantly delayed after its US TX.
Nine has confirmed exclusively that Taronga: Who’s Who in the Zoo will return, along with Country House Hunters Australia.
Nine did not give any clarity surrounding the final season of Westside, that Hamish Turner had previously confirmed would air in 2022. Nine also did not indicate whether they have the rights to season 8 of Botched. This was particularly of note, as it may be moving to Seven with the NBCU deal.
