Netflix Introduces First Nations Production Ready Bootcamp in Darwin In Partnership with Screen Territory

Netflix Introduces First Nations Production Ready Bootcamp in Darwin In Partnership with Screen Territory – Netflix is kicking off a first-of-its kind First Nations Production Ready Bootcamp as part of its commitment to fostering growth and inclusion in our local screen industry.

In partnership with Screen Territory, the three-day Darwin based workshop will support 10 First Nations participants looking to enter the screen industry by providing a comprehensive overview of the ins and outs of screen production as well as prepare participants for trainee and attachment positions. The Production Ready Bootcamp will focus on below the line crew roles, and applicants from the Northern Territory and South Australia are encouraged to apply.

Following the bootcamp, 5 – 6 successful candidates will be selected to continue on as part of Netflix’s ongoing production attachment program and secure an attachment working position on an untitled series shooting in and around Darwin, NT and South Australia.

Growing and maintaining talented and experienced crew is essential to the success of our local screen industry. First Nations Australians hold a significant place in the cultural fabric of Australia, and their inclusion in the film and television industry is crucial for fostering diversity, authenticity, and representation. In below the line (BTL) crew roles, First Nations Australians bring a unique perspective, lived experiences, and cultural knowledge that enriches the storytelling process by promoting greater cultural accuracy and respect in on-screen portrayals.

Applicants interested in various departments including production assistants, locations, hair & makeup, costumes, set design, props and assistant editing can apply here by Friday, 14 July at 5 PM AEST.

All applicants must have a valid driver’s license, a strong interest in below the line crew roles and be available to travel to Darwin from 25 – 29 July. Those selected to continue in the attachment program must be available to travel and work in the Northern Territory and or South Australia from the 8th of August – 10th of November 2023 (These production dates may change).

Expenses will be covered for the bootcamp and a nominal fee offered to accepted participants. Those successful in being selected for the attachment program will be paid for the duration of their work.

The Production Ready Bootcamp is the latest effort from Grow Creative Australia, the local training program of Netflix’s global initiative that aims to expand and up-skill local talent through investment in education and training, with a focus on fostering inclusivity. Together with Netflix’s Creative Equity Fund, Grow Creative is a dedicated effort to help build new opportunities for underrepresented communities within entertainment.
