Across the month of November, National Geographic celebrates the 100th anniversary of the discovery of King Tut, with two hours each Saturday night dedicated to Egypt.
The celebration begins on Saturday November 5 AEDT, 100 years to the day – November 4, 1922 EET – that Howard Carter and a team of archaeologists found the first step of a staircase in the Valley of the Kings.
On the 26th of November a tiny hole made in a door revealed a room full of golden treasures – they had found the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
The myths, the treasures, the explorers and the pyramids of the ancient lands will all feature as National Geographic reveal the secrets behind the digs that are still continuing today.
Kicking off the month long celebration is the highly anticipated premiere of Tut’s Toxic Tomb at 6.30pm AEDT on Saturday November 5.
On 26th November 1922, Howard Carter made the greatest archaeological find of all time – the treasure-filled tomb of Egyptian boy king Tutankhamun – news that lit up the world.
But when people who entered the tomb began dying, tales of a “Pharaoh’s Curse” spread.
Were the deaths just coincidences or stories created to sell newspapers? And can modern science explain the truth behind the legend?
Season Four of Lost Treasures of Egypt will also premiere on Saturday November 12 at 6.30pm AEDT.
