My Way on Channel 9 – Nine Queensland cameraman Scott McCracken has added another Australian Cinematographer Society gong to his collection with the Bronze Award in the Entertainment & TV Magazine category at the ACS Queensland Awards held at Brisbane City Hall on Saturday night.
McCracken’s winning entry delved into the compelling story of Noosa local Peppie Simpson, an inspirational figure in women’s surfing since the 1970s, for an episode of My Way which showcased her passion for surfing, defying social norms at a time when women weren’t encouraged to ride the waves.
From leading the Victorian Women’s Surfing Association to becoming an integral part of the national surfing body, Peppie’s journey resonated with viewers, emphasising the timeless message that age should never limit one’s pursuit of a passion.
The accolade comes as McCracken marks two impressive decades behind the lens, covering local, interstate and international stories.
He said: “It’s humbling to receive a second award from the ACS. This acknowledgment speaks volumes about the synergy and creativity of the entire Nine Queensland production team. It’s a collective triumph, and I am filled with gratitude and pride for the epic teamwork that fuels our success.”
Nine Queensland’s Production and Programming Manager, Geoff Cooper, said: “Scott’s two well-deserved ACS awards stand as a testament to his dedication to his craft and to My Way.
“In our ongoing commitment to deliver world-class, premium content, the influence of visual storyteller’s like Scott guarantees that these captivating stories are captured with unmatched brilliance, elevating the viewing experience for our audience.”
My Way on Channel 9 and 9Now – will return with a new series in early 2023.
