Half centuries from David Warner and Marcus Stoinis ensure Australia seal victory against Oman in T20 World Cup Opener –
Australia has sealed a victory against World Cup first timers Oman to begin their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup journey successfully, winning by 39 runs in Barbados today.
Australia convincingly defeated their opponents with stand out performances from dynamic all-rounder and power hitter Marcus Stoinis scoring an unbeaten 67 runs and claiming 3 wickets, alongside a dominant half-century from opener David Warner who scored 56 runs. Together both batters contributed a solid partnership of 102 runs.
David Warner also became the highest ever run scorer in T20 cricket for Australia during play, surpassing former Australian white ball captain Aaron Finch. Warner now tops the record sitting on 3,155 runs.
A match of many milestones, leg-spinner Adam Zampa also claimed his 300th wicket in the T20 format of the game.
Australia will next play fierce rival and strong contednder England on Sunday 9 June at 3:00am (AEST). As one of the tournament favourites, Australia will be aiming to make history by becoming the first team to hold all three Men’s ICC trophies simultaneously, following their victories in the ICC World Test Championship Final and Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023.
