Restoration Australia on ABC TV – In Series 5 of Restoration Australia, host and Architecture Professor, Anthony Burke follows the progress and pitfalls of single-minded restoration enthusiasts who stop at almost nothing to revitalise their beloved buildings.
Throughout the series, Anthony crosses the country providing expert commentary, wise counsel and timely support to owners as they grapple with the restoration of some of Australia’s most treasured old buildings.
Episode Six:
Moving and retrofitting a 90-year-old Queenslander to be uber energy efficient is either brazenly brilliant or overly optimistic.
Rosemary Leonard and Rafaele Joudry share a passion for living sustainably and, not long after they first met, the couple made the radical decision to buy land in an eco-village on NSW’s Central Coast. Next step was finding an old house they could transport there: Enter Dorothy, the Queenslander.
A long way from her tropical home, Dorothy needs some major work to comply with the eco village’s stringent energy efficiency rating. But balancing her heritage and innate charm with some extensive additions is much more complex than anyone could have imagined. Is this a black hole of money and time? Or is it a benchmark in sustainability for all restorations?
