Old People’s Home for Teenagers on ABC – The intergenerational program is officially over, and to mark the occasion the participants are putting on a big event at the retirement village. Attending will be their families, friends and the residents of the retirement village.
Backstage, the seniors are feeling very confident about their speeches. The same can’t be said for the teenagers, especially Addison. Despite never having confidence in speaking, Addison hopes his feelings for his fellow participants will spur him on.
At the start of the program, clinical psychologist Dr Sophie Li tested the teenagers on their confidence and well-being. Prior to the program many of the teens reported feeling lonely, unhappy and having a fear of being judged. Dr Sophie will test them again to see the progress they’ve made throughout the program.
With the speeches over, the participants put on a Variety Show. They all give it a fair go, with an eclectic mix of performances including kazoo playing, comedy acts, singing, and piano recital.
After the silliness of the performances are over, it’s time for all the participants to see their families. There are hugs all around as the families of our teens get to meet the seniors who were so influential to their teens. Despite this being the last event of the program, there are promises to keep in touch.
Ten weeks later, we catch up with the group at their first organised big event after the program.
