Better Homes and Gardens on Channel 7 and 7plus S31E12 – the storylines for this Friday’s episode 12 airing 7pm on Channel 7 and 7plus.
JOHANNA – AMAZING HOME – PARKSIDE RIGHT SIZING
If you could choose the size of your home, bigger is always better…right? It seems most Aussies agree, because as a country we have the largest average house size in the world. But while Aussie homes keep getting bigger – and bills keep getting bigger to match – the number of people living in each home has gone down. Is this really the best way of living? Homeowners Bryan and Marija aren’t so sure. Last year, they chose to subdivide their plot, knock down their old garage and build a house to retire into. Not only is their home beautifully designed, Bryan and Marija see it as a great way to ‘age in place’: they still get to enjoy their old neighbourhood, but in a smaller house with fewer bills. Could downsizing – or as Bryan and Marija put it, ‘right-sizing’ – be the way of the future? Johanna’s meeting up with them to find out.

CLARISSA + CHARLIE – ULUṞU ADVENTURE
Clarissa and Charlie are travelling to Australia’s spiritual heartland for an epic two-week adventure jam-packed full of awe-inspiring views, indigenous culture and cuisine. Starting with a sunset camel tour, they’ll experience everything from a meal at the Northern Territory’s best restaurant, Tali Wiru, to a magical sunrise sound and light show, inspired by a stunning piece of artwork created by three local Anangu women. Plus, Clarissa’s sharing a simple recipe using some local native ingredients, like salt bush and lemon myrtle, so you can try a taste of the Red Centre at home. This is a journey that will truly take your breath away.
COLIN – LEFTOVER SUNDAY ROAST SALAD WITH BUTTERMILK CURD
Everything tastes better with cheese…including last night’s roast dinner! Dressed up with some garlicky croutons and a zesty lemon-mustard dressing, your leftover roast meat and potatoes will be even yummier than they were the night before. The crowning glory? A one-ingredient homemade buttermilk curd that tastes amazing.
ADAM – KIDS ROCK
Adam’s sharing a simple weekend project that’ll have the kids rocking out for hours. He’s using some timber offcuts to make an easy rocking horse…and you only need three tools to put it together. No matter how basic your DIY skills are, you can make this, and the kids will absolutely love it.
DR HARRY – ANXIOUS CAVOODLE
Sullivan the cavoodle is two years-old, but he’s only been living with Rochelle, Matt and their family for about two months. When the family are at home, Sullivan is the model of good behaviour…but trouble starts as soon as the door closes behind them. You see, Page 2 of 2
Sullivan has a major case of separation anxiety and screams, cries and howls whenever he’s left alone. Rochelle and Matt have tried everything from herbal remedies to calming music, but nothing seems to calm poor Sullivan down. Can Dr Harry convince this cavoodle that being home alone isn’t so bad?
GRAHAM – A MAGICAL WATER GARDEN
What sort of garden is full of water-loving plants…but never actually needs to be watered? A water garden of course! Graham’s visiting Austral Water Gardens in Cowan, an hour north of Sydney. Established by William Roberts in 1942, it’s now run by his grandson, Kevin, and Kevin’s wife, Lisa. The water gardens here are a true testament to the beauty of aquatic plants and Graham’s sharing some of his favourite varieties, plus plenty of inspiration for your place.
JULIET – HACK IT & CREATE DESIGNER FURNITURE
When it comes to choosing furniture, it doesn’t have to be all straight lines and right angles. In fact, curved furniture can really add softness and visual interest to a space, which is why it’s one of the biggest trends in design right now. This week, Juliet’s showing you how to get the look for less. She’s making a curved and panelled sideboard using a few flat-pack kitchen cabinets and some timber place mats. Sounds strange, but the finished result looks a million bucks!
