Tonight an electrifying showdown saw four incredible artists secure their spot in The Voice Grand Finale. Ezra Williams from Team Jess, Tarryn Stokes from Team Rita, Charlie Pittman from Team Guy and Ethan Beckton from Team Jason will compete for The Voice crown. Before the night was through, superstar coach Guy Sebastian also took to the stage to perform his new single I Choose Good.
Rita Ora declared Tarryn’s performance of Coldplay’s The Scientist: “Out of this world… I was hanging with my nails on every single word that was coming out of your mouth.” The mum of two shared her battle with post-natal depression before locking in her Grand Finale spot with a voiceGuy called “otherworldly”.
Faced with a tough decision between Emily Kate, 18, and Tarryn, 40, Rita said: “The artist I am taking through is in the right place at the right time, and I believe they can win this show. In fact, I know they’ll win this show.”
Thrilled, Tarryn shared: “It’s amazing. Rita, I love you I am just so grateful for you to see that in me.” As Emily bid farewell, Rita admitted: “You are only 18 and you’ve smashed everything I’ve thrown at you.”
Charlie’s stripped back version of A-ha’s Take On Me secured his Grand Finale spot as Guy declared the performer: “musically mature enough to understand who he is.” Jason agreed the 28-year-old “looked like a star tonight” after Charlie took theSemi Final to new heights by performing in a clear box suspended five meters above the stage.
Grateful, Charlie said: “Thank you so much for believing in me and letting me take risks. I won’t let you down.”
Team Guy Semi Finalist Bella Mackenzie, 18, left the show after her “spectacular” version of John Farnham’s Two Strong Hearts. Guy assured the up-and-coming-star: “you should be so proud.”
Jason proclaimed Ethan a “ready-made star” before advancing the 19-year-old to the Grand Finale after his performance of Train Wreck by James Arthur. The powerful ballad, designed to showcase his vulnerable side, saw the landscaper blow all the coaches away despite having no formal music training. Rita echoed: “That was the best I have ever, ever heard you sing.”
Musical theatre maestro Callum Warrender departed The Voice after an“epic performance” of Never Enough by Loren Allred.
Ezra, 28, cemented her Grand Finale berth with her vocal prowess on Afraid to Feel by LF System. Ezra reflected on her sisters Emily and Lavina, who are also singers, when she shared: “It took me so long to actually call myself a singer…I was embarrassed and ashamed. I always thought I was never going to be as good as them.”
Jess said: “Time and time again you have showed us what a powerhouse you are.” Shocked, Ezra said: “I am just so over the moon right now!”
Departing artist David Aumua did coach Jess “overwhelmingly proud” by overcoming his self-doubt and body insecurities, admitting: “It’s not easy trying to accept yourself.”
