According to USA Today, Nathan Lane has signed on to guest star on ‘Modern Family’ next season.
The comedy veteran will play Pepper, the overly flamboyant and often-mentioned friend of Cameron and Mitchell.
Show’s creators/executive producers Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd were approached by Lane, who had expressed interest in appearing on the show before landing the role.
While Levitan tells USA Today that Lane fit the part perfectly, he also revealed that they were trying to “toning down on stunt casting” next season.
“We don’t want to turn into a guest of the week,” said Levitan. ”The audience loves our characters and we have enough of them in the large ensemble.”
The series has already seen a number of big stars drop by, including Shelley Long, Edward Norton, Elizabeth Banks and Minnie Driver just to name a few.
‘Modern Family’ airs Sundays and Tuesdays on Ten.
