Adam Liaw wins the title of 'MasterChef'.

After 14 long weeks of challenges, Adam Liaw has taken out the crown of Australia’s next ‘MasterChef’.

The 31-year old lawyer took out the title following three gruelling rounds of challenges against fellow finalist, Callum Hann, 20.

The two amateur cooks were awarded a maximum of 20 points for each round, which including a basic skills test, an invention test and a pressure test.

The first round saw Adam move ahead, showing off his knowledge in the kitchen by naming a number of difference ingredients, spices, fruits, fish and sauces. Callum closed the gap slightly by showing off his knife skills when demonstrating three different cuts of carrot. The final part of round one saw the contestants cook off to make the perfect omelette, which again saw Adam move ahead in the competition.

In round two, the judges welcomed back celebrity chef Matt Moran to help introduce a “three way” invention test. For this round the contestants were asked to choose one core ingredient to present three different ways in just 2-hours.

Adam, who played to his strong suit, plated up three impressive asian inspired pork dishes, while Callum wowed the judges by delivering three different variations on chicken. Both contestants were universally praised by the judges, each receiving 9/10 points all round.

For the third and final round, Adam and Callum were tasked to recreate a dessert by three hat chef Peter Gilmore — a guava and custard apple snow egg.

It all came down to this final round in determining who would win the title of Australia’s next ‘MasterChef’. With just 4 points separating the two contestants, it was still anybody’s game.

Expectations couldn’t be higher for Callum, who had become known as the “dessert king” of the competition.

The judges gave Callum 33/40 points for the final round, pushing his grand total to 82/100. Adam scored 36/40, giving him a grand total of 89/100 points.

As winner of ‘MasterChef Australia’, Adam receives a $100,000 prize pool and a publishing deal to bring his dream cook book to market.

“I just can’t believe it,” says Adam “I’m sure I’ve fallen down some stairs and I’ll wake up in a hospital bed and it’s all a dream. It’s extraordinary. I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy!”

Callum didn’t leave empty handed either, receiving $10,000 and a paid 3-month internship with George Calombaris’ restaurant The Press Club in Melbourne.

With such a huge audience expected to have tuned in for the finale, Network Ten used the opportunity to also promote their upcoming series of ‘Junior MasterChef Australia’, which is set to premiere later this year. Check out the promo here.
