America is set to put a Yankee slant on another UK favourite.

MTV have picked up the US adaptation of the E4 drama ‘Skins’, which follows a group of teenagers living in Bristol, South West England.

While the US version will relocate the series to Baltimore, Maryland, the concept will remain much the same — dealing with controversial story lines, such as eating disorders, substance abuse, sexuality and teen pregnancy.

The US series will also feature a mostly unknown cast and young writing staff, as per the original.

‘Skins’, which was originally created by father and son team Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain, became a huge hit for Channel 4 cable off-shoot E4 when it debuted in 2007.

Elsley will exec produce the MTV adaptation along side Charlie Pattinson and George Faber.

Production will commence later this year for a January 2011 premiere.
