‘Housewives’ to exit the lane after eight seasons

Rumours have begun to circulate that ‘Desperate Housewives’ may be bowing out after its eighth season.
ABC Studios who produce the show have been rumored to have renewed the hit dramedy for a straight two year pickup taking the show to season eight.
Marc Cherry, the creator of the show had envisioned taking it to seven seasons but after celebrating the show’s 100th episode announced he wanted to extend its run to nine seasons.
Marc Cherry already has a deal to stay with ABC for three more years and it appears ABC is keen to have Marc produce a new show in the final year of his contract instead of focusing on a ninth season of ‘Desperate Housewives’.
There had been previous reports Marc had attempted to develop another dramedy and a half hour comedy for ABC but couldn’t find the time with his commitments for ‘Desperate Housewives’.
This seems to have been done to secure key writers and the four main actresses Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria Parker, Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman who all have contracts that expire at the end of the seventh season.
Now in its sixth season the show has suffered a ratings drop off that could account for its age and a two year contract could give the writers the perfect opportunity to map out the show’s final two seasons and give the show a proper send off and allow ABC to find a suitable replacement after the show ends.
