Paramount Pictures have hired screenwriters Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka to pen the upcoming ‘Baywatch’ movie.
The writing due co-wrote the upcoming comedy ‘The Sitter’, starring Jonah Hill and directed by David Gordon Green.
‘Baywatch’ has undergone a number of writer changes since the project was first brought to DreamWorks back in 2004, with ‘National Security’ writers Jay Scherick and David Ronn set to adapt.
‘The Break-Up’ co-writer Jeremy Garelick was then brought on to rewrite and direct in July, when the project moved to Paramount.
Based on series that ran from 1989 to 1999 (and 1999 to 2001 as ‘Baywatch Hawaii’), the movie is believed to have a ‘Charlie’s Angels’-vibe with strong female-driven action.
Gatewood and Tanaka will adapt the television series for the big screen, which the studio hopes to release in mid 2011.
