‘Private Practice’ showrunners step down
March 25, 2010 in News by Cameron
Executive producers/showrunners Robert Rovner and Jon Cowan have stepped down from their roles on the ABC Studios drama ‘Private Practice’.
Rovner and Cowan took over the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ spinoff following the writers strike in 2007, helping to build the show into a formidable ratings success over the last two seasons.
The reason for their departure is unclear.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC have no immediate plans to bring in a replacement for Rovner and Cowan, as they’re departing the series with stories already developed for the remainder of the season.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Private Practice’ creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes will continue to oversee all creative and production aspects of both shows.
ABC have yet to announce any renewals for next season, however ‘Private Practice’ is expected to return, alongside ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Desperate Housewives’.
Katherine Heigl’s final episode of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ airs 8.30pm next Tuesday on Seven, followed by an all new ‘Private Practice’ at 9.30pm.
