FlashForward star for Melbourne Cup
Sonya Walger
Channel Seven today announced it will bring FlashForward star Sonya Walger to Australia this November as it’s guest for the 2009 Emirates Melbourne Cup race day.
Walger stars opposite Joseph Fiennes and John Cho in the highly anticipated new US drama which premieres 8.30pm tonight on Seven.
This will be Walger’s second trip to Australia.
“I shot one of my first jobs, a TV movie, in Melbourne years and years ago, more than I wish to count. I remember coming back to England and telling Mum that if I ever I inexplicably disappeared, one of the first places she should look is Melbourne. I’m so excited about coming back, about seeing what I can remember and what has changed, about eating the outrageous food, and getting to wear a huge hat at the Melbourne Cup,” said Walger.
Born and raised in the UK, Walger attended Oxford University, where she majored in literature. Currently based in Los Angeles, Walger was most recently seen on Seven’s hit drama, Lost, as ‘Penny Widmore’. In FlashForward, she plays trauma surgeon, ‘Dr Olivia Benford’, who is married to FBI agent, ‘Mark Benford’ (Fiennes).
The US premiere of FlashForward last Thursday was watched by 12.4 million people and dominated it’s timeslot among adults 18-49 and total viewers. The new drama gained viewers from its first to its second half hour and was the first regular series telecast on any network to beat Survivor in the adult demo since Friends in 2004.
About FlashForward: When the world’s population is given a glimpse of their future, it forces everyone to come to grips with whether their destinies can be fulfilled or avoided. Adapting award-winning author Robert J. Sawyer’s revolutionary novel, executive producers David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) and Brannon Braga (24, Star Trek: Enterprise) invite you to embark on a journey to answer the question, “if you knew what your future held, what would you do?”
